What can we expect?  

GIS Winterfest is a community celebration focused on bringing our families together. Enjoy an evening of holiday fun, connecting with your fellow GIS families. There will be good food, holiday merchandise available for sale, a visit from St. Nikolaus, and a festive PreK sing along in the gym and the Grade school concert upstairs.  

What does it cost?

Admission is free. There is no need to RSVP for the event unless you plan to join the Winterfest meal. The Winterfest meal must be pre-purchased online or at the front desk by November 15. The Adult Meal cost $12 and the Kids Meal cost $5. 

Can I bring my friends and family? 

Like with all GIS concerts & sing-alongs, all current/alumni GIS families and their extended family and friends are welcome! Please note–seating is limited. Some attendees may need to stand during the shows.  


When does school start and end?

All students are in the care of GIS staff during this time

  • 10 am – 2:30 pm - SCHOOL DAY (Late start. There is no before care)
  • 2:30 – 4:00 pm - Winter/holiday arts & crafts

Why does school start late? 

In order to make Winterfest possible, so the students, staff, and volunteers are not too tired, the school day will start at 10 am. There is no before care available. 

When & where do I pick up my child after school? 

Students will be in the care of GIS staff through the sing-along for PreK students and until the end of the Grade School concert for 1st-5th graders. Please see the list below for pick-up times by grade. 

PreK students are in the care of GIS staff until 5 pm  – no extended care

  • 4 – 4:30 pm - PreK sing along with St. Nikolaus in gym
  • 4:30pm-5 pm - PreK students released to families from classrooms (this is in an open pick-up time)

Grade School students are in the care of GIS staff until 5:30 pm – no extended care

  • 4 – 5:00 pm - Preparing for concert (Grade School students only)
  • 5 – 5:30 pm - Grade School Holiday Concert with St. Nikolaus upstairs
  • 5:30 pm - Grade School students released to families directly following the concert


When and where do we eat?

The Winterfest meal will be served in the downstairs lunch room from 4:30 – 6:30 pm. Please see below for suggested eating times. In order to keep the school clean, all food & drink should stay in the downstairs lunch room. 

  • 4:30 – 5:30 pm • Suggested time for PreK families
  • 5:30 – 6:30 pm • Suggested time for Grade School families

Why do I have to pre-order food? 

Only food that is ordered will be available at the event. Pre-ordering food allows us to cut down on potential food waste. 

Sorry you missed the deadline to order food of November 15th! Please feel free to bring your own snacks/food. Please be sure to clean up after yourselves. 

Can we buy food at the event?

No, there will not be any food available for purchase at the event. 

Can I bring my own food to the event?

Yes, outside food will be permitted. Please be sure to clean up after yourselves.

Will drinks be available at the event?

Beer from Rosenstadt Brewery will be available for people 21 and over. Water is included in each food order. 


Where can I buy holiday items? 

Holiday merchandise, Oma’s cookies, and German candy will be available for purchase in the Elefanten room from 4-6 pm on December 6th. Please note – in order to honor the needs of our volunteers – All sales end at 6 pm.

I won’t have time to shop at Winterfest. When/where else can I shop?

  • Monday, Dec. 2 – Thursday, Dec. 5th from 7:30 am –9:30 am
  • Enjoy free Kaffee (coffee), Gebäck (cookies), and Kuchen (cakes)
  • Purchase authentic German holiday merchandise Wooden nutcrackers, ornaments, smokers, pyramids, and more!
  • Oma’s cookies and Holiday candy

How can I participate in the baking/baked goods donations?

Sign up to bring or bake a treat at the front desk or email

Participate by baking or bringing your favorite holiday treats. In thanks, each baker & donor is eligible to win one of 20 small goodie bags or the grand prize, a German Christmas Pyramid with a holiday baking scene! Gebäck / Kuchen contributors also receive 2 hrs of volunteer credit for homemade goodies and one hour if store bought.
