The German International School (GIS) is one of the seven North American German Schools Abroad (Boston, Montreal, New York, Portland, Silicon Valley, Toronto and Washington DC) that is accredited by the Federal Republic of Germany’s Central Office for Schools Abroad (ZfA) and meets their rigorous accreditation standards. Our program is not only accredited by the ZfA, but also follows the Oregon state standards.
Because so many of our families are not German speakers, we test our students’ content skills in both English and German. Each year, our grade school students take tests offered by the ZfA, the AATG and the State of Oregon. Our students consistently score at or above standards on all three tests.
After completing the GIS program, your child will easily assimilate academically into a public or other private school here or in Germany, because English as well as German skills thrive here.
GIS is also authorized as an IB World School, using the curriculum framework of the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The International Baccalaureate (IB) comprises a worldwide network of schools that share a common commitment to making the world a better place through high-quality, international education.

The IB programmes challenge students to excel in their studies, and encourage both personal and academic achievement.
