Mar 04 Refuge: A Benefit Concert For Haiti 1:20 AM

Elementary school students of the German American School of Portland (GSP) and the French American International School (FAIS) will present a combined concert of songs in support of Haiti. “What can we do to help?” the students asked GSP’s Head of School, Blake Peters. Brainstorming with the students from both school...s and music teachers Nathan Conant and David Olson, they came up with the idea of a joint benefit concert.

Come join us at the German American School of Portland on Thursday, March 4th at 1:20 PM for a beautiful concert for a great cause. The concert is part of GSP’s and FAIS’ ongoing effort to teach cross cultural awareness and to make students aware of global issues. “Our kids are compassionate and passionate about serving kids in Haiti. Many of them started their own clubs and fundraisers independent of our school’s benefit concert”, said Mr. Conant, music teacher at GSP.

Close to 100 students will perform “Refuge” a song composed by Howard Goodal (the composer of TV themes for Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Mr. Bean and many other songs.) Its main theme is solidarity, with those near us who may be refugees from other countries, or with those who simply feel left out of the crowd. Donations will be accepted at the door and all proceeds with be given to the Haiti Relief Fund through World Vision.
