Christina Francisco

Preschool Assistant Teacher, German Track

Hafa Adåi! (Hello in Chamorro, the indigenous language of Guam). My name is Christina Francisco and I was born and raised on the island of Guam, a tropical island in the Pacific and a U.S. territory. Although I grew up on an island, my mother is originally from Germany. This sparked my motivation to study the German language and potentially unlock a piece of my heritage. In 2015 I moved to Oregon to attend the University of Portland, where I obtained a bachelor’s degree in German Studies and Sociology. During my undergraduate career, I had the chance to study abroad in Salzburg, Austria for a year and the following year, complete a summer internship for a nonprofit in Cologne, Germany. Upon graduation I returned back to Germany on a Fulbright scholarship to teach English. I am a firm believer that language-learning opens exciting doors, and offers unique opportunities for growth and new perspectives, and I couldn’t be more honored to take part in this process with students at GIS!
