Grade School Teacher - German

Position: Grade School Teacher (German-speaking), German Track

Status: Full time / Exempt / Academic Year

Reports to: Grade School Director

Position description:

GIS is seeking enthusiastic and motivated applicants who believe in our mission statement and are passionate about creating dynamic learning experiences for our students. We are currently seeking applicants for teaching positions in the first or second grade. All subjects are taught in German.

Areas of Responsibility

Teaching

• Lesson planning based on German and American standards and the PYP IB plan.

• Teaching the curriculum using a variety of methods and media.

• Organizing and creating a learning environment in which students can learn new skills and competencies individually and in collaboration with others.

• Evaluating teaching methods and materials to improve teaching.

• Offering differentiation to meet the needs of various learning styles..

• Identifying intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs that affect student success.

• Ensuring that instructional goals and general educational goals set out in the mission statement are achieved.

• Helping students comply with behavioral guidelines to minimize classroom disruption.

Evaluation

• Defining criteria and methods for the evaluation of student academic achievement with grade level and/or subject-area colleagues.

• Using evaluation tools appropriately in regards to individualized student needs, when necessary.

• Providing information regarding evaluations, such as criteria, time frames, and , to students and parents.

• Analyzes the assessment results, if necessary with class and subject-related colleagues.

Communication

• Communicating proactively and regularly with students’ families.

• Hosting parent conferences and parent evenings to provide information on learning progress and the curriculum.

• Supporting students and parents in difficult personal, academic and social situations

• Consulting with the elementary school administration, if necessary, to initiate referral to outside support.

School Development

• Continuing development of the curriculum and teaching methods in cooperation with the teaching staff.

• Participating and contributing to Quality Circles and other projects that advance the curricula and IB program.

School events

• Representing the school positively to the outside world.

• Participating in school events and making a reasonable contribution to their planning and implementation.

• Participating in professional development, conferences and workshops.

• Participating in meetings and involvement in school development.

• Passing on newly acquired knowledge to the teaching staff.

Qualifications

• Completed 2nd state examination for primary school teaching or a comparable bachelor's/master's degree.

• German native speaker or native speaker level (C1/C2) - Non-native speakers will be evaluated by the school.

• Knowledge of English desired.

• Experience with the IB program preferred.

• Minimum of two years teaching experience at the K-12 level.

• Familiarity with student-centered classroom management and willingness to work collaboratively with other teachers.

• Passing a criminal background check.

• Participation in a first aid and CPR course as well as a course on safe food handling (before school starts).

Employment Requirements:

• 40 hours per week - full time.

• Occasional participation in evening and weekend school-related events.

• Must be able to carry at least 10 kilograms.
