Katja Black

Preschool Teacher, German Track

Hi! My name is Katja, but most of the kids here at GIS call me Frau Blackie. I am one of the preschool teachers this and I can't wait to meet all of you. I have been with GIS since 2012 and it has been an amazing time. I love the exploring, learning, and fun we have while learning here at GIS.

I'm from a very, very small town in Germany called Malterhausen. I attended the realschule in Jueterbog, Germany and from 2007-2009 I was an au pair in Ohio. After returning home, I married my husband and we moved to the U.S. Army garrison in Vilseck. In 2010 I attended Central Texas College Europe for my early childhood profession degree and we also welcomed our daughter to the world. In 2011 we moved from Amberg, Germany to Beaverton, Oregon. I received my practical training in Germany's preschool setting for age 0-5 year olds and here in Oregon I worked as an infant and toddler teacher before joining GIS.

In my free time I like to spend time with my family and go on little adventures, wherever the road takes us. Oh and let's not forget that I like chocolate chip cookies! See you soon!
