Krisztina van den Nieuwelaar

Grade School, Extended Care

I was born in Hungary and graduated from Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest as a teacher of English language and literature and teacher of Hungarian language and literature.

For 16 years I worked in adult education, teaching English/Business English and Hungarian as a foreign language. Besides that I was translating for a publishing company and tutoring teenage students, helping them prepare for their language/university entrance exams.

Later on my husband’s job first took us to China then to beautiful Portland, Oregon.

Here I quickly discovered Oregon College of Arts and Crafts where I enrolled in metalsmithing courses as making jewelry has been a longtime passion of mine.

In my free time I enjoy silversmithing in my home studio, hiking, cooking, and meeting with friends.

At GIS I am looking forward to help students discover their appreciation for different cultures and develop into curious lifelong learners.
