Chinese Track Director

martha.ortiz@gspdx.org

Growing up in multicultural Queens, New York, my default worldview has always been one of diversity. This familiarity with diverse spaces led to electing to major in Chinese Language and Literature at Wellesley College, and upon graduation, I knew that my life would be intertwined with China and the warm and diverse Chinese culture in some way. Studying, working, and living in China led me to the field of supporting educational programs on the intersections of systems, languages, and cultures. I received a master’s degree in International Educational Development from Teachers College, Columbia University.

I launched three international schools during my 12 years living, studying, and working in China. Most recently I served as the Head of School at Northwest Chinese Academy in the Beaverton. I am delighted to join the GIS community and help launch this exciting new language track here! Outside of school I like spending time with my daughter, practicing yoga, and exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
