My family and I moved to Portland in 2021. Because of Covid we were unable to physically come here to look for housing so with the help of the Internet, we were very lucky and found a home. After speaking with our landlord, he informed us about a school nearby with a Mandarin track which was GIS. We were so excited, we applied for GIS the next day. We have two daughters who currently attend the GIS Mandarin track and have thoroughly enjoyed watching them progress so quickly.
I was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia to parents who immigrated from China. During my undergraduate years at Brigham Young University, I took a two year leave to serve for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Taichung, Taiwan. This experience allowed me to learn more about Chinese and Taiwan culture and improve my Mandarin. I appreciated the culture my parents tried to instill in me when I was young and therefore wish to pass this on to my daughters.
I am a pediatric and fetal surgeon at Oregon Health & Science University. I was recruited to help build a comprehensive fetal program here in the Pacific Northwest. I have served in various leadership positions in the American College of Surgeons including Chair and Vice-chair for the Resident and Associate Society and continue to hold leadership positions both nationally and locally. I also currently serve in the United States Air Force Reserve in the 446th AMDS in Tacoma, Washington as a flight surgeon.
