Adult Language Classes

GIS offers German and Mandarin Chinese classes for adults at all levels of experience. Taught by native or near native speakers, each class blends language instruction with rotating cultural topics, giving learners the chance to practice conversation skills while engaging with the traditions, customs, and every day life of German or Chinese speaking communities.

Whether you’re a beginner or looking to brush up on your skills, our classes provide a welcoming, interactive space to build vocabulary, confidence, and cultural understanding.

Mandarin Chinese for Adults

    Beginner Class (Online) - Fall 2025

    Engaging Chinese language class for adult learners at the beginner level. For Adults with no prior Mandarin experience. Learn basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and simple conversation skills from the comfort of your home.

    Intermediate (In-Person) - Fall 2025

    Designed for learner with some Mandarin Chinese language experience, this class integrates language instruction with cultural context to support real world communication and confidence. Expand vocabulary, sentence structure, and conversational fluency with more complex topics.

GIS offers weekly in-person German classes for adult learners at all levels. Classes are taught by experienced native or near-native speakers and emphasize both language and culture in an engaging, supportive environment.

Tuesdays, 6:30 to 8:00pm

September 23 - January 27, 2026

(no class on 11/11, 11/25, 12/23, nor 12/30)

Tuition: $340

Class Levels:

  • Beginner: build basic vocabulary and simple conversation skills (no prior experience)

  • Advanced Beginner: expand on fundamentals through short social dialogues (some experience)

  • Intermediate: deepen vocabulary, grammar, and creative writing (intermediate proficiency)

  • Advanced: Refine complex grammar and written expression (strong proficiency)

  • Conversation Group - Cinema & Literature: discussion based course for fluent speakers focused on German film and literature.
