Laternlein #6 - Busy October!
October is shaping up to be a busy and exciting month at GIS! From important reminders to community celebrations, here are the latest updates we’d like to share.
Murray Campus Traffic Reminder
A quick reminder for families coming to and from our Murray Campus: left turns are not allowed during our busiest traffic times, 7–9 a.m. and 2–4 p.m. These hours are when our drop-off and pick-up lines are heaviest, and avoiding left turns helps keep the flow moving safely and efficiently.
If you are making a left turn outside of those hours, please remember to use the left lane only. The right lane is reserved for right turns. Thank you for doing your part to keep traffic smooth, safe, and stress-free for all of our students and families.
Lost & Found – Murray Campus
It has only been one month into the school year, and already our Lost & Found is brimming with items! From jackets to lunch boxes, water bottles to shoes, our collection is filling up quickly.
We encourage families to stop by and check for missing items before they disappear into the Halloween season and transform into “spooky ghosts” haunting our hallways. Your child may be happily reunited with something you didn’t even know had gone missing.
Extended Program: October 24 In-Service Day
Just a friendly reminder that Extended Program (EP) for In-Service Days requires a separate sign-up. If your family will need care for your child on Friday, October 24, please be sure to complete the registration form. Advance registration ensures that staffing and activities are prepared to create a safe and enjoyable day for all students.
Results of Member Vote
Thank you to all parents, staff, and alumni donors who took part in our recent Member Ratification vote. We are pleased to report that all items, including the annual dues, the appointment of a financial reviewer, and the annual member meeting schedule, were approved with more than 84% support.
We extend special gratitude to Ashley Clark, Karin Wright, and the many Parent Circle volunteers who spread the word and encouraged participation. Thanks to these efforts, we reached quorum, just barely, and ensured the vote remained valid.
Your engagement plays a crucial role in the strength of our school community. We are grateful for your continued support and partnership.

Parent Spotlight: Thank You, Travis McFeron
This month we want to shine a spotlight on a parent whose professional expertise has directly impacted the future of GIS. Travis McFeron, GIS parent and structural engineer, generously volunteered his time and knowledge during the first phase of our middle school renovation project.
Travis reviewed structural designs and offered valuable insight that helped keep this project both on time and on budget. His guidance gave our community confidence as we move forward with one of our largest capital projects to date.
As a parent of two GIS students, one a proud graduate and one currently enrolled, Travis embodies the spirit of collaboration and care that defines our community. We are truly grateful for his generosity and dedication.
Thank you, Travis, for your partnership and for helping us build a stronger future for our students.
Special huge thanks to all the parent volunteers, who helped make our 3 day long School Pictures, a magically fun event!
