Administrative Assistant & Beginning Adult Mandarin Language Teacher

evangelista.barylski@gspdx.org

I was born in upstate New York and lived there until I was 12, when my family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Though I was always interested in foreign languages and cultures, my first real international educational experiences were in high school, when I was able to attend an International Studies Magnet program and study abroad in China through the Confucius Institute and National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y). After high school, I attended the University of Delaware, where I double majored in Chinese Studies and Asian Studies and also studied German, graduating in the fall of 2018. I spent my junior year of college abroad at Xiamen University in China. In 2021, I received my Master’s in Project Management from the University for International Cooperation in Costa Rica, and I am now pursuing a second master’s degree in International Education Management and Leadership from the University at Albany, SUNY. Before joining GIS in 2022, I worked for an international education non-profit in Washington, DC. In my free time, I enjoy baking or just relaxing with Netflix or video games.
