GIS offers German, Chinese and other classes for adults at all levels of experience. Taught by native or near native speakers, each class blends language instruction with rotating cultural topics, giving learners the chance to practice conversation skills while engaging with diverse communities.

Whether you’re a beginner or looking to brush up on your skills, our classes provide a welcoming, interactive space to build vocabulary, confidence, and cultural understanding.

    German - Beginner 1

    Basic Vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and simple conversations.

    No prior experience needed.

  • Adult-German-Language-Class-Portland

    German - Beginner 2

    Builds on the basics with short social dialogues and sentence building.

    GIS Beginner 1 or 1-2 years of prior German recommended.

  • German-Adult-Class-Portland

    German - Intermediate

    More specific vocabulary, short creative texts, and conversation practice.

    2-3 years of prior study recommended.

  • German-Adult-School-Beaverton

    German - Advanced

    Complex grammar, advanced writing, and in-depth discussions.

    Strong knowledge of German required.

  • German-School-Portland

    German Conversation Group: Cinema & Literature

    For fluent speakers. Film screenings, discussions, original German texts, and board-games evenings.

    Strong German skills required.

Asian Language Classes

  • Online-Mandarin-Chinese-Adult-Class

    Mandarin - Beginner (Virtual Online)

    Build foundational language skills and cultural knowledge through pronunciation, vocabulary, short conversations, and basic characters.

    No prior experience needed.

  • Japanese-Adult-Class-Beaverton

    Japanese - Beginner

    Introduction to basic grammar, essential vocabulary, and the Hiragana and Katakana writing systems. Develop practical conversational skills for everyday situations.

    On-site childcare is available during adult class sessions for children of students, in kindergarten and up.

    $15 per session, with one sibling free.

Payment & Terms

All classes are held in person at the

German International School, 14200 SW Brigadoon CT, Beaverton, OR 97005

unless otherwise indicated.

  • Participants must be 21 years of age or older.

  • Registration deadline: October 6, 2026.

  • A minimum of 5 students is required for a class to be offered.

  • Registrations are processed on a first come, first served basis.

  • Full payment is required to guarantee enrollment.

  • No refunds or discounts are available for late enrollment, early withdrawal, or missed classes.
