GIS offers German, Chinese and other classes for adults at all levels of experience. Taught by native or near native speakers, each class blends language instruction with rotating cultural topics, giving learners the chance to practice conversation skills while engaging with diverse communities.

    Basic Vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and simple conversations.

    No prior experience needed.

    German - Beginner 2

    Builds on the basics with short social dialogues and sentence building.

    GIS Beginner 1 or 1-2 years of prior German recommended.

    German - Intermediate

    Expanded vocabulary, short creative texts, and a strong focus on speaking, conversation, and interactive games.

    2-3 years of prior study recommended.

    German - Advanced

    Complex grammar, advanced writing, and in-depth discussions.

    Strong knowledge of German required.

    German Conversation Group: Cinema & Literature

    For fluent speakers. Film screenings, discussions, original German texts, and board-games evenings.

    Designed for adults with little or no prior Cantonese who want to start speaking from day one.
    Focus on pronunciation, essential vocabulary, and everyday sentence patterns in a supportive, interactive environment.

    Introduction to basic grammar, essential vocabulary, and the Hiragana and Katakana writing systems. Develop practical conversational skills for everyday situations.

    Yoga auf Deutsch

    Try something new in a friendly community! Build strength, balance, and calm while practicing German. This immersive yoga class is taught with clear, easy to follow German instructions.

    This class is hosted at the GIS Murray Campus.

  • German-History-Adult-Class

    German History Mini-Course (in English)

    German History: From Kaiserreich to WWII

    When people think of German history, World War II often comes to mind, but it did not develop in isolation. Over 8 weeks, this course explores the German Kaiserreich (1871-1918), World War I, and the Weimar Republic (1919-1933) to better understand the political, social, and economic conditions that led to the rise of the Third Reich and WWII.

    This class is taught in English.

    Dates: February 26 to April 2

    Cost: $200

    On-site childcare is available during adult class sessions for children of students, in kindergarten and up.

    $15 per session, with one sibling free.

  • Participants must be 21 years of age or older.

  • Registration deadline: February 18, 2026.

  • A minimum of 5 students is required for a class to be offered.

  • Registrations are processed on a first come, first served basis.

  • Full payment is required to guarantee enrollment.

  • No refunds or discounts are available for late enrollment, early withdrawal, or missed classes.
