Physical Education at GIS

The vision of the Physical Education program at German International School is to inspire and prepare children to be lifelong movers. Students learn the value of being active through a wide variety of actives, games, and sports. In addition to developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to lead healthy, active lifestyles, students also gain important social skills such as communication, sportsmanship, cooperation, and respect for others.

Afterschool & League Play

In addition to the core PE program, GIS offers a robust after school sports program for all ages from Preschool through 8th grade. These include interscholastic sports teams, beginning in 3rd grade through 8th grade. We compete against other schools in the Metro Portland Area, such as our growing middle school soccer team in the Metro Christian League. Younger students also participate in enrichment programs such as yoga, SmartMoves, and GIS Kickers (our very own soccer academy). This well rounded program allows every student to find a sport or activity they enjoy while learning the value of teamwork, perseverance, and healthy living.

In PreK and Kinder, students learn how to move their bodies, follow rules, and use different equipment while participating in a wide range of games and fun activities. We work on development foundational movement skills like running, skipping, galloping, jumping and hopping, as well as manipulative skills like rolling, tossing, catching, and dribbling. These experiences are complimented by gymnastics, yoga and obstacle courses to build coordination, strength and confidence.
