Extended Programs

GIS offers high quality Extended Care Program for students who need care after school lets out, during day-off camps, and summertime.

All programs focus on independence, consistency, and socialization. Our goal is to provide a safe, positive, and fun atmosphere for all children attending GIS. This is done daily by providing homework time, hands-on special projects, free play, and outside or gym time.
We follow all GIS school rules and policies listed in the Parent Handbook. We are licensed through the Oregon Child Care Division and follow all state health and safety guidelines.


After Care

Registration for the Extended Care Program will be available in the Back to School Packet and on ParentsWeb.

Extended-Care Hours

Before Care begins at 7:40 a.m. on regular school days at no cost to GIS families. Extended Care begins at school dismissal time and ends at 6:00 p.m. This care is provided on all regular school days. For any in-service days or breaks, separate sign up is required. Please review the school calendar for the no-school days that extended care will be available. 

Extended Care Options/Fees

The scheduling options provide families with the ease of selecting the number of days per week and the specific days their child(ren) will attend for one flat monthly rate. A 2% discount is available when families pay in full upon registration. Please note that the scheduled option does not include any in-service days or breaks, separate sign up required.

There are two options available: Care from school dismissal until 4:30 p.m. and care from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m.

4:30 p.m. dismissal rates:

  • 5 Half Day Schedule: $2450 per year, $245 per month
  • 4 Half Day Schedule: $2050 per year, $205 per month
  • 3 Half Day Schedule: $1600 per year, $160 per month
  • 2 Half Day Schedule: $1156 per year, $115.60 per month

6:00 p.m. dismissal rates:

  • 5 Full Day Schedule: $3200 per year, $320 per month
  • 4 Full Day Schedule: $2930 per year, $293 per month
  • 3 Full Day Schedule: $2650 per year, $265 per month
  • 2 Full Day Schedule: $2200 per year, $220 per month

Mondays 

Northwest Youth Theater Class: The Mouse Bride (Gr. 2-5)

Dates and Time: Jan. 30; Feb. 6, 13, 27 and March 6, 13, 20. 3:15-4:15 p.m.

No Class on Feb. 20th.

Cost: $175

Students and teachers will co-create a short play through scenes, song, and movement. The basis and theme will be, "The Mouse Bride, " a Chinese folktale. Beginning Mandarin learners will be introduced to basic Mandarin phrases and culture and more advanced students will be able to create scene dialogues. This class will taught by Jenny Hung and Michelle Bahr. A performance will be presented on the last day of class!

The mission of Northwest Youth Theater is to educate and enrich the lives of young people by providing meaningful opportunities for them to explore the performing arts.

Engineering for Kids. Junior Scratch and MaKey MaKey: Musical Adventures (Gr. K-2) 

Dates & Time: Feb. 6, 13, 27 and March 6, 13, 20. 3:15-4:15 p.m.

No Class on Feb. 20th.

When your favorite song comes on the radio do you sit quietly or do you dance around and play the air drum solo? In Musical Adventures With Scratch and Makey Makey, we are going to explore how different sounds are created and we will create our own interpretations of common musical instruments like drums, piano, guitar, and even a recorder, and we will create our very own dancing program, all through the use of Makey Makey and Scratch to bring our music to life! The last day will end with a bang, or at least a really great mini concert from all of our students!

Jump Start Gymnastics (Ages 2.5-5)

Dates & Time: Jan. 9, 30; Feb. 6,13, 27 and March 6, 13, 20. 3:15-4:15 p.m.

No Class on Jan. 16th, 23rd & Feb. 20th

Cost: $240

Jump Start Gymnastics offers a convenient on-site class packed full of high-energy fun! Quality gymnastics instruction, including bars, balance beam, and trampoline is offered at German International School! Your child will learn balance, strength, coordination, and flexibility all while building confidence and self-esteem.

Tuesdays

Music & Movement Club with Frau Musgrove (Ages 2.5-4.5)

Dates & Time: Jan. 24, 31; Feb. 7, 14, 21, 28 and March 7, 14. 3:15-4:15 p.m.

Cost: $125

We're gonna shake our sillies out! In this early childhood music class, we will sing, dance, play, and laugh together. Children will learn the fundamentals of music by exploring instruments, playing musical games, and singing songs in various languages. Who knows, we might even break out the parachute!

Engineering for Kids. Hardware Engineering: Get Wired with Makey Makeys (Gr. 3-5)

Dates & Times: Feb. 7, 14, 21, 28 and March 7, 14. 3:15-4:15 p.m.

Cost: $132

Imagine designing a piano using celery or creating a custom digital training program. Now, envision playing video games using just your body, a bit of wire and your own imagination. In our hardware engineering program, students engineer their own customized video game controllers using a Makey Makey device and materials that can be found in just about any kitchen. Through application of circuitry, acoustical engineering and video game design, students discover new ways to interact with technology, all while creating unique designs in a fun collaborative environment.

Wednesdays 

Funky Divas & Dudes: Hip Hop Dance Club (Grades K-5)

Dates & Time: Jan. 18, 25; Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22 and March 1, 8. 3:15-4:15 p.m.

Cost: $208

This is a performance-based class, designed to help students gain confidence and self-esteem. We promote a healthy lifestyle through fun, physical activity that encourages self expression through music and movement. We teach age-appropriate dance routines to all the best new tunes. There's a rockin' performance in costumes on the last day for family and friends!

Kiddy Keys (Ages 3-5)

KiddyKeys® also helps build character because each lesson emphasizes the development of positive values and self-worth. KiddyKeys® makes learning fun – and helps prepare your child for school, too.

You’ll beam with pride as your little one happily sings songs about Mozart and Beethoven…recognizes the music alphabet…develops rhythm and movement. Who knows? Your child may grow up to play a Chopin piano concerto someday!

Chess Wizards (Grades K-5)

Join Chess Wizards this year for challenging chess lessons, exciting tournaments, fun, team activities, and more! If you’re brand-new to chess, we’ll teach you the basics and get you playing right away. If you’re a seasoned checkmate artist, we’ll show you new ways to let your creativity show on the chess board.

GIS also offers one-on-one tutoring which can be arranged through the child's teacher.

Summer Program

GIS Summer Camps are fun, adventurous, and filled with learning opportunities! They are a great way for interested families to try us out and get some exposure to foreign language learning. No previous language experience is required to join us at Summer Camp. Look out for updated summer offerings each spring.

Summer Camp 2023 Registration will be available in March 2023.
