Teen German Classes

Deutschkurse für Jugendliche

6th Grade Class

This class is designed to accommodate the advanced teenage German learner who has had several years of instruction and wants to maintain and improve his/her skill in a fun and age-appropriate social setting. Priority in class instruction will be given to oral skills for communication about teenage topics. Teens may bring a snack to class.

The course runs 15 weeks per session with 90 minute classes once a week and is suitable for students who already passed the A2 test and want to improve their German skills both in reading and writing with the ultimate goal to pass the DSDI test in 8th Grade.

The student:

  • Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
  • Can deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling in an area where the language is spoken.
  • Can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
  • Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

9th Grade Class

9th graders are welcome in the DSDII after passing the DSDI test with very good results. They will be able to take the DSDII test when they are in grade 11 or when they are 16 years old.

DSDI Prep Class

DSD Language Courses are designed to help prepare students for taking the German standardized tests and are broken down into two separate courses:

DSDI Prep Class

  • Designed for those students in 7th and 8th grades with very good German language skills.
  • Prepares students to pass the written and oral components of the DSDI German language standardized test.
  • Students will be exposed to authentic online/virtual experiences and will be expected to do some homework.
  • Two year cycle: First year being less work, focusing on reading, presentations, building vocabulary; Second year intense focus on writing, former tests to practice format.

Sessions I & II

  • Session I: September 11th, 2019 – January 8th, 2020
  • Session 2: January 22 - May 13, 2020

Class Time: 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Test Dates:

  • Written test: TBD
  • Oral test: TBD

*Registration for tests is in Mid-December (testing dates set by German Government; might interfere with Spring Break plans)

Cost : $330 per session

DSDII Prep Class

  • DSDII Mandatory Parent Meeting February 12, 2020 after class at 6:30 p.m.
  • Geared towards High School students (grades 10-12) with advanced German speaking abilities.
  • The course will prepare students for the written and oral components of the language entrance exams for German universities (DSDII), German Language Tests for College Admission of Foreign Students, and/or the American AP and/or AATG tests
  • Features extremely small class
  • Students will be expected to participate in discussions, work actively in class, and do homework on a regular basis.
  • Two year cycle: First year being less work, focusing on reading, presentations, building vocabulary (Sternchenthemen); Second year intense focus on writing, former tests to practice format.

Sessions I & II

  • Session I: September 4 – December 18, 2019
  • Session II: January 22 - May 13, 2020

Class Times:  5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Test Dates:

  • Written test: TBD
  • Oral test: TBD
