GIS Creek Rife with Science Fair Project Potential

Creek Clean Up

When we started cleaning up our creek area last year, I heard students discuss ways to prevent flooding and protect the area from growing noxious weeds. In a way, the creek clean-up was an experiment. GIS families and staff researched ways to protect their hard labor by covering up areas with coffee bags to prevent weed growth.

Science Fair Connection

After reading Frau Amann’s post about the upcoming science fair, it dawned on me that it would be interesting to find out how well the coffee bag weed prevention tactic worked over the last several months. In the next weeks, our students will have an opportunity to investigate and make improvements on the bank of the creek based on their findings.

Family-Friendly Science Project

Our creek area will potentially allow us to conduct more long-term science projects on-site, which we are all very excited about.

If your child is on the younger side, why not make it a family science project and research and create together? Children are naturally curious and we can continue to foster their interest by helping them to investigate further.

We’re excited to hear about your Science Fair Project ideas. We hope you join us in the Lunch Room on April 9th to view all the science projects!
