Making Global Connections

As a global learning community we are always looking for opportunities to make connections with students around the world. This fall an opportunity presented itself to collaborate with a classroom at the International School in Linz, Austria. After exchanging a few ideas we started our collaboration with a Flat Stanley project

Our third graders were so excited when they received the letters and flat stanley’s from Linz last week.We read the letters, learned about the group of students and today Frau Prince “flattened” our students to get them ready for the journey. The Flat Stanleys we receive will travel with our students and we will document their little adventures with pictures and writing. As you can imagine our students are so excited to start writing!

As we are moving through the year the classes will continue to collaborate in German for letter writing and maybe we will also find out about the weather in Linz for our next unit?

I love when we find opportunities to expand our learning beyond the classroom and provide students with authentic motivations to write and learn about others - and may I just say, have lots of fun along the way?

Stay tuned for reading about the adventures of 3rd grade Flat Stanley’s and if you have a moment, come check out the displays in the hallway downstairs.
