Rachel Musgrove

Preschool Teacher, German Track

rachel.musgrove@gspdx.org

" I was born and raised in the Portland area. I have always had a natural fascination for foreign languages and cultures, as well as a passion for teaching. I completed my bachelor of arts in anthropology at Willamette University. After graduation, I moved abroad to Berlin for two years to concentrate on learning German. I later completed my MA TESOL at the Middlebury Institute for International Studies at Monterey. I volunteered briefly as a Peace Corps English teacher in Mexico before returning to Portland.

I have worked at GIS in various roles since 2017, including music teaching and social-emotional support. I am pleased to have been teaching the Igel / Hedgehog class since 2022 and coordinating the adult class since 2025! Teaching at GIS has enabled me to share my passion for language learning with our community's youngest learners.

Outside of school, you can find me hiking in the mountains, exploring new travel destinations, rocking out to some 80's covers in my synth-rock band, cooking & baking up a storm in the kitchen, and cuddling my two cute cats, Adi and Rudi. "
