Students Shine at Oaks Park Oktoberfest

“Herbst ist da, der Sommer ging hin, leise die Winde weh’n.”

GIS students sang this and more at Oaks Park's Oktoberfest on September 22nd after only a few rehearsals to prepare. Directed and accompanied by Frau Bahr, Hung Laoshi, Frau Carvalho, and Herr Blomenkamp, the students enchanted the audience with a collection of German traditional songs and a couple of silly ones, including "Herbst ist da," "Du, du liegst mir im Herzen," "Schön ist die Welt," "Mein Vater war ein Wandersmann," "Die Gedanken sind frei," "Orchester Lied," "Hejo, Spann den Wagen an," and "Eine Muh, eine Kuh."

The power of music in language immersion learning cannot be underestimated. Music has the unique ability to engage students emotionally, making the language come alive as they sing along. Choir, in particular, plays a crucial role in this process by promoting teamwork, enhancing pronunciation, and deepening students' cultural understanding.

Following their performance, our students were given ride bracelets with unlimited access to the rides.

The teachers and staff were all impressed with how quickly they were able to prepare all of the songs and can't wait to go back next year.
