GIS Students Shine at the Hong Kong International Chinese Language Festival

GIS is proud to celebrate our students' outstanding achievements at the 6th Hong Kong International Chinese Language Festival (2025–2026)!

Recently, our students gathered with our Head of School, Division Head, and their Chinese instructor for a special award ceremony and group photos to recognize their accomplishments and celebrate their hard work.

Outstanding Student Achievements

GIS students earned an impressive collection of awards in this international competition:

  • 22 Individual Gold Medals

  • 2 Top Scholar (Zhuangyuan) Awards

  • 1 Team Champion Award

  • 1 Outstanding Instructor Award

Students participated in a variety of individual, small-group, and team events, showcasing their talents through Chinese storytelling, tongue twisters, instrumental performances, singing, dancing, and other creative presentations.

These achievements reflect not only their developing Chinese language skills but also their confidence, creativity, teamwork, and dedication.

Bringing Language and Culture to Life

What makes these achievements especially meaningful is the variety of learning experiences represented by our students.

Our award recipients include students who participated in last year's after-school Chinese program, students from last year's German-track choir, and current third-grade students in our Chinese immersion track.

Through these different learning experiences, students discovered opportunities to use Chinese in creative and meaningful ways.

These experiences remind us that language learning is not limited to textbooks or classrooms! It comes alive when students use language to express themselves, share cultures, and connect with others.

Chinese Language Learning at GIS

At GIS, we believe language learning is about more than memorizing vocabulary and grammar. It is about developing the confidence to communicate, think, explore, and express ideas in another language.

Our Chinese Immersion Program provides students with meaningful opportunities to develop Chinese listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through inquiry, communication, and engaging learning experiences.

Alongside immersion learning, our after-school Chinese activities and cultural performances allow students from different language backgrounds to explore and appreciate Chinese language and culture. It’s true cultural competency at work!

The achievements at the Hong Kong International Chinese Language Festival highlight how our students can apply their language learning beyond the classroom while developing creativity, confidence, and intercultural understanding.

Our Dedicated Instructor, Teacher Jenny

Behind these achievements is the dedication and encouragement of our amazing Chinese instructor, Jenny Hung, who guided and supported students throughout their competition preparation.

We are especially proud to recognize Jenny for receiving the Outstanding Instructor Award, honoring her commitment to Chinese language education and student success.

We also extend our appreciation to our families for their continued encouragement and support. We couldn’t do it without the help of our families!

Celebrating Our Learning Community

Our recent award ceremony was more than a celebration of medals and certificates. It was an opportunity to recognize the perseverance, creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm our students demonstrated throughout their learning journeys.

We are proud of every student who participated, challenged themselves, and embraced the opportunity to share their talents.

Congratulations to our students and Jenny Hung on these wonderful achievements!
