Press Release: Bettina Gregg Named New Head of School at GIS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
German International School Names Bettina Gregg as New Head of School
Beaverton, OR - July 1, 2025 - The German International School (GIS) is proud to announce the appointment of Bettina Gregg as its new Head of School, effective July 1, 2025. A respected educator, visionary leader, and longtime member of the GIS community, Gregg succeeds Blake Peters, who served as GIS’s Head of School for 22 years.
Gregg has served as GIS’s Middle School Director and Assistant Head of School since 2023, leading the development of a thriving middle school program and championing immersive, curiosity driven learning that reflects the multicultural values of empathy, inquiry and identity development. Her connection to GIS runs even deeper, with her two children enrolling in preschool here in the early 2000’s. “This is a full circle moment,” says Gregg, “to now be leading the school that helped shape my kids is incredibly meaningful.”
Gregg brings a strong background in multilingual, inquiry based education, with prior leadership and teaching roles at Oregon Episcopal School and public schools in California. A German native, she earned her Abitur in Bavaria, her B.S. in Biology from Santa Clara University, and her teaching credential from Loyola Marymount University. She is fluent in German and English and holds dual citizenship in the U.S. and Germany.
“Bettina is an exceptional fit for this role,” says Karen Keene, President of the Board of Directors. “She leads with vision, humility, and heart. Her deep personal roots at GIS and outstanding professional experience make this more than a leadership transition, it’s a deepening of who we are and who we’re becoming.”
As Head of School, Gregg will continue advancing GIS’s German and Mandarin Chinese Immersion programs, strengthening professional development, and supporting the school’s mission to raise globally minded, adaptable and compassionate learners.
