Laternlein #9: Lighting the Way! Fun Run Success, Lantern Parade & Cozy Raffle

Win a Cozy Movie Night Basket

This fall, your feedback and referrals can win you something extra cozy. Leave us a review on GreatSchools, Yelp, or Niche.com, or refer a new family to one of our upcoming Open Houses on November 2 for Preschool through 8th Grade or November 7 for Two’s, and you’ll be entered into our Movie Night Basket Raffle.

Each review or referral equals one entry. The raffle will take place on November 10, with the winner announced in the following Laternlein Newsletter. Families attending the Open House will be asked who referred them, and those names will be added to the drawing as well. It’s a fun and simple way to support GIS while also spreading the word about our community.

Discover German Children’s Books Locally

Parents often ask us where to find authentic German-language books for kids. We’re happy to share that Jan’s Books in Beaverton has a shelf full of gently used German children’s titles.

It’s a wonderful local resource for families wanting to expand their home libraries with German reading material.

Let’s Light Up the Lantern Parade

Our annual Lantern Parade is just around the corner on November 10, and the Parent Circle is working to make it especially magical. To create a warm glow throughout the evening, we are collecting empty glass jars with lids. Jars that are ready for recycling are perfect for holding a tealight.

Our goal is to gather 200–300 jars. You can drop them off at the table near the Front Desk in the Murray Building until November 9. Every jar helps bring more light and beauty to the parade.

Volunteers are also needed for this special evening. Check with The Parent Circle for more info.

Thank you for helping us fill the night with light, warmth, and community spirit.

Fun Run: 95% Registered & Reward Store is Open

We did it! With 95% of students registered, we’ve hit our profit guarantee, and the highest participation in three years! A huge thank you to every family who helped make this possible. A full summary report will be shared soon.

Now it’s time for the fun part: points mean prizes! If your student collected donations or added contacts on Booster, they’ve earned points to spend in the Reward Store. Orders are due Monday, November 3. All prizes ship to school for easy pickup. Families who don’t place an order will receive traditional prizes based on points earned.

How to claim prizes:

  • Log in at MyBooster.com and check your points.

  • Click “Visit the Reward Store.”

  • Browse and add your favorites (within your points).

  • Checkout and watch for the confirmation popup and email.

Thank you again for making this year’s Fun Run such a success!

Thursday, November 13th | 6:30–8:00 p.m. | GIS, Murray Building

If you own a home, car, retirement account, insurance policy, or even treasured jewelry, then you have an estate. The important question is: what happens to it when you can no longer make decisions, or after you pass away?

Join us for Estate Planning 101 to learn how to:

  • Protect the people and causes you care about most

  • Minimize costs your heirs may face

  • Understand key U.S. and Oregon estate tax laws

Our presenters will be:

  • Mike Teskey, GIS Director of Advancement

  • Kathy Saitas, former estate planning attorney and Senior Director of Gift Planning & Advancement Counsel at Reed College

Light refreshments will be provided.

Gratitude Spotlight: First Grade Families

A heartfelt thank-you goes out to our first grade parents for their incredible donation of 100 stainless steel plates and 100 metal spoons. These gifts directly support our school’s sustainability initiative by reducing single-use items and encouraging eco-friendly practices during school events.

Your generosity helps us take meaningful steps toward a greener future, and we are so grateful for your support.

Finally - FREE SWAG!

GIS Car Magnets have arrived! Pick up your free GIS Magnet from the Murray Lobby and slap that GIS Pride on your vehicle. Don’t worry - we’ll get some migrated over to the other two campuses for grab and brag as well!
